FAQ

Have some questions? I have some answers!

Please carefully read the FAQ below before submitting a contact form.

1. Do you guarantee your work?
If an editor guarantees “error-free work” or “a perfect manuscript,” they are not being honest with you. Editors are humans, and errors occur or are missed in a manuscript. Books are published every day with minor errors. Of course, it’s my job to be as precise as possible, and I excel at my job, but I am not infallible. My goal is to present you with a manuscript you will take pride in.

2. What’s your project turnaround?
My turnaround times differ depending on which type of editing you choose. Developmental editing is typically around five (5) weeks for a 50,000-word manuscript. Book Editing, which is exclusively offered to self-publishing authors, will have varying turnaround times for each author.

3. I’ve never worked with an editor before, and I might need extra help. Is that okay?
It’s completely okay! I want to help you feel comfortable and work with you to hone your manuscript into the vision you have for it.

4. Are there any genres or types of writing you do not edit?
I do not edit graphic novels, stage plays, or screenplays.

5. Do you accept ESL (English as a Second Language) clients?
Absolutely! Anyone may feel free to reach out via the contact page before requesting a quote with any questions.

6. Do you have submission or formatting guidelines?
Yes. When uploading your document(s), please make sure it is in 12pt text size in Times New Roman font and double-spaced.

7. Do I have to sign a contract?
When requesting a quote, you will read and sign a basic Terms of Service. This is required to complete your reservation and schedule. After our first consultation and free sample edit, and if you decide you’d like to keep working with Curly Quotes Editing, you’ll be presented with a contract to sign before work continues.

8. Do you use video chat?
I do, but it is not required of you! If you’d rather only use your microphone during consult calls, that’s more than okay.

9. What if I can’t use Zoom to contact you?
Not a problem! Just choose “Email” under the “Preferred Consult Contact” section when booking, and we’ll find a solution that works for you!

10. Do you provide marketing or publishing help?
I focus on being an editor; however, my Book Editing service provides the extra hand many self-publishing authors need to finish up their projects.

11. I have questions about a project you edited for me in the past. Can I email you about it for help?
All clients may contact me with additional questions about their manuscript for two (2) months after our work has completed.
